Taking a gap year

Rounded corner
Lone Dancer
A year out (or gap year) is an opportunity to try out new experiences, earn money or gain valuable skills before starting your course. Employers will be keen to offer you a job if you can show the skills you've learnt.

It's usually taken between sixth form or college and university but you can actually take a gap year whenever you want.

You could:
  • Meet new people
  • Learn new skills
  • Experience different cultures
  • Improve your confidence
  • Learn a language
  • Get work experience for your chosen career
  • Improve your grades
