Higher education
The higher your qualifications, the more you're likely to earn in the future. You must be prepared to work hard at university but it's not just about learning... you'll gain independence, learn to live with other people, have a chance to do new activities and learn how to organise yourself.
There are thousands of higher education courses on offer at both university and college. For degrees, look for 'undergraduate' degree courses. To find out more about which courses are on offer:
- Visit your school, college or Connexions Centre library and look for course directories such as Heap’s Degree Course Offers or The Big UCAS Guide to University and College Entrance.
- Look at the UCAS website.
- Read the university prospectuses – paper versions should be in your school, college or Connexions centre library. You can find out more info at the Guide to Higher Education on the NUS website.
To help you decide what course is right for you:
- Use software such as Pathfinder HE or Higher Ideas (look in your school, college or Connexions centre library).
- Try the online matching programme UKCoursefinder
- Look at some of the useful websites on Fetch!
- Speak to your Personal Adviser and teachers in school or college
