Year 8 Choices
After or in Year 8 you'll be making choices that will help you decide which job you'll do in the future.
Next or this year you will:
- explore your choices in school with your teachers and Personal Adviser
- choose which subjects you’ll take in Years 10 and 11 (or in some schools in in Year 9) - more advice on your future choices
So now’s a good time to start thinking about:
- Which subjects you enjoy.
- Which subjects you’re good at.
- Which subjects you could do better in.
- Which subjects give you specific skills.
- What jobs you might be interested in for the future.
- How you like to learn
Earn a little cash
Once you’re 12, if you want to, you can start thinking about earning a little pocket money. You won’t be able to do part-time work until you’re 13 but for some jobs such as washing cars, walking the dog or gardening you won’t need a permit.
If anything is worrying you …
…you will feel a lot better if you share it with someone else.
That someone could be …
- A teacher who you like
- Your parents or carers
- A friend
- An adult you trust
- Your Personal Adviser
